M-sand (manufactured sand) is fine aggregate produced by crushing granite or other hard rock in a crusher and screening and washing it to the required grading. Where river sand is scarce or restricted, it has become the usual fine aggregate on many sites.
Two kinds are commonly sold: a coarser grade for concrete and a finer grade, often called P-sand (plastering sand), for plaster and masonry mortar. Ask the supplier for test reports and check grading and silt or dust content against the specification the project follows.
Because grading and shape differ from river sand, mix proportions and water may need adjusting. Base the concrete mix design on the actual M-sand you are buying, not on a mix made for river sand. Check incoming loads too, because quality can vary between batches and suppliers.
